The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday confirmed that its former Twitter handler, Olufemi Adeyemi, resigned his employment.
Adeyemi was unmasked as “The handler” last week, just as the anti-graft agency announced that he was leaving its service.
His unveiling caused a stir on Nigeria’s blogosphere due to the mystery that surrounded his identity.
Thousands of Nigerians were also mesmerised by the intelligence, wit and sarcasm he brought to his job.
His exit led to speculations that Adeyemi, the rapper known as F.Shaw, was sacked because of the “unserious” manner he handled a government’s social media account.
He has denied that.
And the EFCC has affirmed that he indeed left on his own volition.
A statement posted on the agency’s Facebook page on Monday reads: “Olufemi Olukayode Adeyemi worked in the Public Affairs Directorate of the Commission since November 2014, where he exhibited his talent as a consummate professional.
“Before moving on, he managed the twitter handle of the Commission; @officialEFCC amongst other assignments.
“Adeyemi harboured personal dreams even before assuming duties at the Commission and he has now decided to fulfill those dreams.
“Like a parent that finds joy in seeing a child grow, we are happy for Adeyemi because the Eagle must be allowed to soar.
“And, like the Eagle that always maintains its nest, Adeyemi’s home remains the EFCC.
“The world and Twitter have certainly not seen the last of ‘The Handler’”.
