Tolu Ogunlesi the special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on digital and new media has said that Twitter has taken control of the hacked account of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
A cyber-attack group Anonymous had on Friday morning hacked the NBC Twitter account, joined the #EndSARS campagn and threatened to hack into government agencies’ websites.
However, Mr Ogunlesi tweeted later in the day saying the account had been recovered. He also instructed all government agencies to authenticate their accounts to prevent future occurrence.
“Update: Twitter has helped take control of the hacked NBC account. All Government agencies should follow @Galaxybackbone instructions and ensure two-factor authentication activated for all official accounts,” he wrote.
Earlier this week, the cyber group which was founded in 2003 claimed to have hacked several government databases, including one which contains names and contacts of operatives of the now-defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS).
