Social media giant Twitter has described the suspension of its operations in Nigeria as “deeply concerning”.
The company’s senior policy communications manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Sarah Hart, stated this in an email response, according to TheCable.
“The announcement made by the Nigerian Government that they have suspended Twitter’s operations in Nigeria is deeply concerning.
“We’re investigating and will provide updates when we know more,” Hart was quoted as saying.
In suspending Twitter, the Federal Government cited the “persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
The company had on Wednesday deleted a post by President Muhammadu Buhari in reference to the Nigerian Civil War.
Qed.ng learnt that telecommunications firms were instructed to shut down access to Twitter by midnight Saturday.
The duration of the suspension was not announced by the government.
