Nigerians who risked reporting late for business on Monday were rewarded for their faith as the Golden Eaglets retained the FIFA U-17 World Cup with a 2-0 win over Mali in the early hours of the day.
Wonder boy, Victor Osimhen, broke the deadlock in the second half with his record-breaking tenth goal of the tournament, with Funsho Bamgboye adding a second moments later.
The victory is Nigeria’s fifth at the cadet competition. It is familiar song for President Muhammadu Buhari who was military head of state when Nigeria won the inaugural edition of the competition in China in 1985.
Unable to go out on the streets in celebration, Nigerians took to the information superhighway to express their joy.
Their route of choice? Twitter.
It’s official, Golden Eaglets are the CHAMPIONS of the #U17WCFinal
