Nigerian Twitter users have knocked Tomi Adeyemi for accusing veteran American author Nora Roberts of plagiarism.
Since Adeyemi tweeted on Tuesday accusing Roberts of stealing the title of her book Children of Blood and Bone for her unpublished work Of Blood and Bone, negative reactions have been pouring in from fans and supporters of both authors.
While many say Adeyemi should have treated Roberts with more respect considering her pedigree as a veteran author, others say she was too quick to lay claims of copyright theft.
Nora Roberts response to Tomi Adeyemi’s unfounded claims of plagiarism reminds me of why she’s a best selling author in the 1st place. And the way she dropped the mic with that ending: “I’m Nora Roberts, I am a hardworking writer and an honest one, and that’s it”- EPIC! 👑 pic.twitter.com/Gdxe1nIRid

Why has Tomi Adeyemi not deleted the tweet?

“Others were upset” because your tweet inflamed them. The right thing to do in this situation is to delete the original tweet and this one. You are spreading false accusations and knowingly damaging a peer’s reputation among readers.

OMG, I can feel Nora Robert’s pain through this blog post. @tomi_adeyemi, you are a disgrace to the writing community for what you’ve done to this poor woman who has been writing before you were born. https://t.co/AeEMgEpETA

I don’t know what I’m more disappointed in. The fact that Tomi Adeyemi accused Nora Roberts without proof of malice or the fact that as a seasoned writer she failed to realize that there is no big deal if books have the same title, it’s the contents that matter!

This whole episode will give Tomi Adeyemi some publicity. Because God knows I had no idea who she was until this tweet dropped.

Tomi Adeyemi can’t say she didn’t know who Nora Roberts is. Even those of us that are not avid readers know her. Renowned writer. Tomi was pure reckless with her tweet and as soon as she saw her mistake; she didn’t even delete her tweet. For a newbie in the game, she shot herself

I hope Nora Roberts sues @tomi_adeyemi for every dime her so-called ‘bestseller’ makes and for the cost of her future books if any comes.
This thing called clout. How do you set out to ruin someone’s reputation because you can’t use the internet to do a simple search?

A seasoned and tactful response and in some circles, one can categorize this as a clapback of epic proportions by Nora Roberts in addressing Tomi Adeyemi. pic.twitter.com/zzSRbfPTkJ

Parts of Tomi Adeyemi’s book were unreadable actually but that’s not the worst part. The worst bit was her repeatedly writing “moi moi pie”
— Choc Au Lait (@nty_o) November 29, 2018
Honestly, despite the apology this author has been permanently placed on my DNR list for this.

😡
Don’t buy that argument of today Tomi.
That was a number selling book. You were on the TV. I reside in the UK and the book was everywhere in the stores. Is Nora from the jungle or from mars how come she’s didn’t know.? Someone in her team certainly knows about your book. pic.twitter.com/iJP4HL5CC6— Folarin Olawale (@foliray) November 28, 2018
