The Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corp (LNSC) on Monday morning came to the rescue of two suspected kidnappers who attempted to lure a two-year-old boy, Darasimi Tijani, with a N50 note.
Muritala Lado and one Bassey attempted the kidnap at 90, Oyewole Road, Orile-Agege, after the kid’s guardian, Fathimo Balogun, went in to attend to the need of other kids.
Passers-by, who noticed the suspected kidnappers’ moves, raised the alarm which led to their arrest by a mob.
The swift intervention of the LNSC officers saved the suspects from being lynched.
Bassey was said to have disguised as a madman but later opened up that he was sane.
The suspected kidnappers confessed that they sell each of the kids they kidnap for N10,000.
They also confessed that they use N50 and honey to lure their victims.
Confirming the arrest, LNSC Chairman, Israel Ajao, said the suspects were taken to the agency’s headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, for further investigation.
“Our primary investigation revealed that one of the suspects is a Hausa man by name Muritala Lado, who claimed to be a tailor.
“The second suspect pretended to be a madman but later mentioned his name as Bassey.
“They confessed to having committed the crime. They have been moved to the Agency Headquarters at Bolade Oshodi for necessary further action,” Ajao said.
