A two-storey building has collapsed in the Marine Quarters axis of Warri, Delta State.
The unfinished building which was few metres away from the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents Chapel, collapsed on Friday around 1 pm without any casualty.
Sources say the impact of the fall affected two nearby quarters.
Labourers were said to have suspended works on the building because of the rains.
It was gathered that the owner of the building was out of town at the time of the collapse.
Some residents accused the owner of refusing to engage other professional hands for the construction, saying “he’s both the engineer and the labourer.”
Chairman of Marine Quarters, Olusegun Awodeyi, called on the state government to send building inspectors to the area to inspect another suspected defective building owned by the same person.
“We don’t want a situation where someone will have to die in this area, government needs to come quickly to take a look at another building belonging to the same man,” Mr Awodeyi said.
