Uganda’s head of opposition Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has acknowledged the effort of Nigerian human rights lawyer Femi Falana who filed a complaint at the United Nations against Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s continued detention of Bobi and his family.
“Nigerian human rights lawyer Femi Falana has filed this complaint on my behalf to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Arrest,” Bobi tweeted on Wednesday.
“We are challenging my continued illegal confinement by the Ugandan police and the military!”
Mr Falana had on Tuesday issued a statement in respect of the complaint.
Bobi and his family have been detained for days in their home by state forces. He had challenged Museveni at the polls which many adjudged to have been rigged in favour of the Ugandan leader who has been in power for 35 years.
On Monday, Bobi said the United States ambassador to Uganda made an effort to visit him but was turned back by soldiers.
