A lecturer in the University of Ibadan (UI) Bisi Olawuyi, who has denied reports alleging that he gave 10 of his students $100 each for attending his first class since the strike was called off, has replied a request by journalist Fisayo Soyombo.
Olawuyi was alleged to have gifted the money to his students who attended his first class following the suspension of the eight-month-long industrial action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
However, the lecturer on Tuesday via Twitter dismissed the claim as false and advised the public to disregard it.
He wrote: “My attention has been drawn to a tweet circulating that I gave $100 each to 10 students. This is not in any way true. Please kindly disregard. Thank you.”
Soyombo reacted to the tweet, teasing the lecturer to give his ex- students $100,000.
“Dear Sir, when do you intend to give $100,000 to your ex-students? I’m personally interested,” he wrote.
Olawuyi reacted, “Fisayo! I didn’t give any money o. I have reacted to the tweet. You can also help retweet it o. Thanks.”
