Ebonyi State Governor and chairman of South-East Governors Forum David Umahi on Friday refuted a claim by former minister of aviation Femi Fani-Kayode that he was instrumental in the former’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Fani-Kayode defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday. Following his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, the ex-minister said he played a role in Umahi’s defection and those of governors Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Bello Mattawale (Zamfara).
He also said he and his friends were working on the possible defection of governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) to the APC.
During an interview on Channels Television, Umahi said: “For someone to come and say that a whole chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, that he was instrumental to my movement from PDP to APC is an insult on my person and with all due respect, he has to withdraw that statement.
“He remains my friend and a good one for that matter, but he played no role in my movement and I am sure he didn’t play any role in the movement of the rest of us.”
