Prof. Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has congratulated President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to students’ bursaries and scholarships.

Obi said this on Thursday in Calabar when 262 students from the university and the University of Cross River (UNICROSS) were presented with scholarship awards.

She said that 241 students from UNICAL, and 21 students from the UNICROSS were beneficiaries of the Federal Government scholarships through the Federal Ministry of Education.

Obi noted that the president’s initiative had helped many students to pursue their academic disciplines and ensured that no Nigerian student was denied access to higher education.

She also highlighted the president’s initiative on the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, (NELFUND) loan with a free interest rate.

The VC said that this had given the opportunity to students to apply, get educational loans and repay when they commence their careers.

“As someone in this sector, I advise students to take advantage of the available educational schemes, I also encourage them to apply for subsequent scholarships,” Obi said.

She disclosed that as a way of complementing the president’s efforts, no fewer than 68 students of UNICAL have received the vice chancellor’s scholarship awards for outstanding performance.

On his part, Prof. Patrick Egaga, Dean of Student Affairs, urged the beneficiaries to maintain their high academic standards to be eligible for future scholarships.

He emphasised the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance in achieving academic success.

Egaga also encouraged the students to remain focused and committed to their studies, as the scholarship was a privilege and not a right.

“This institution expects you to be good ambassadors and to maintain a high level of discipline and integrity,” he said.
