Nigerian model and University of Lagos (UNILAG) graduate Ololade Ayelabola has entered the Guinness World Records (GWR) for walking the longest distance on a catwalk.

In an announcement on Monday, GWR confirmed that Ayelabola covered an impressive 125.11km (77.74 miles) in Lagos on October 1, 2024, surpassing the previous record of 114.4km set in 1983 by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt in Dublin, Ireland.

To celebrate her achievement, the model shared a video on Instagram, encouraging others to chase their dreams.

“Dare to dream and make your dream a reality,” she said.

Ayelabola revealed that her attempt was motivated by past rejections from fashion events due to her height.

She hopes to challenge industry stereotypes, promote inclusivity and highlight Nigerian fashion creativity.

The record-breaking walk took place at UNILAG’s indoor sports centre, where she showcased outfits from Nigerian designers, including pieces from the university’s theatre arts department.

She was also supported by 34 other models on the runway.
