Manchester United fans have expressed anxiety over the ability of defender Chris Smalling to stop Barcelona from scoring.
The Red Devils host the Spanish side on Wednesday (today) night in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Smalling has been criticised in recent times for his somewhat shaky performances against strong sides.
In a pre-match press conference, when asked by journalists if he was ready for the Barcelona challenge, Smalling said: “I say bring it on. This season we’ve been lucky enough to face likes of Ronaldo, Mbappe and they’re all challenges that I think I definitely relish and I think players at this club relish.
He added: “These are the ties that you look forward to and all the hard work in the group stages, it’s what it’s about. So we as players, we’re all itching just to be on that field and show what we can do.”
Fans do not appear appeased by the player’s comments and have taken to Twitter to express their fears.
