American rapper, Nipsey Hussle, on Sunday was shot dead near a clothing store that he owned in Los Angeles.
The 33-year-old musician was shot a number of times, and was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
Two other people were injured in the shooting that took place in the Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard area of the American city.
Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Davidson Asghedom, grew up in South Los Angeles and was a member of the Rollin’ 60s street gang when he was a teenager.
He later became a community organiser, and was involved with the Destination Crenshaw arts community project.
Earlier on Sunday, he had tweeted: “Having strong enemies is a blessing.”
Nipsey has worked with numerous successful artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Drake, YG, Ty Dolla Sign, Meek Mill and Young Thug.
His 2018 major label debut album Victory Lap was critically acclaimed and received a nomination for best rap album at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
Nipsey is survived by lover Lauren London and his two children, Kross and Emani Asghedom.
