Ex-Super Eagles forward, John Utaka, has made a shocking return to the Egyptian league with Ismaily, 15 years after leaving the club.
Utaka, 34, played for the three-time Egyptian champions for just a single season after joining from local rivals, El Mokawloon.
He is fondly remembered at the Ismailia Stadium for his superb runs and word class goals – notching an impressive 17 in 21 games.
It was this sole season where he emerged top scorer that opened the doors for a move to Europe.
“I wish to win many things with Ismaily,” the forward who helped the club win the Egyptian Cup in 2000 pledged.
Utaka joined the Mango Boys as a free agent after seeing off his three year deal with Turkish side, Sivasspor.
He spent majority of his career in France – kitting for Lens, Rennes and Montpellier.
The former Enugu Rangers man also had a successful stint in England – winning the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008.
He represented Nigeria at two FIFA World Cups – scoring six goals in 43 international appearances for the Super Eagles.
