Actor Uzor Arukwe has shed light on his portrayal of Odogwu in the film Love in Every Word, addressing public perceptions of his character’s pursuit of Chioma, played by Bamike ‘BamBam’ Olawunmi-Adenibuyan.
In an interview with Arise TV, Uzor explained that his interpretation aimed to depict genuine and raw affection, reflecting cultural nuances.
“A lot of people were antagonizing the entire thing because they don’t understand the concept of love itself. We are very feisty in this part of the world.
“So when I read the script, I felt that’s the only way I can interpret it because I wanted it to be the most genuine, I wanted it to be as raw as possible,” he said.
Addressing concerns about his character’s assertiveness, Uzor emphasised that Odogwu’s actions were rooted in sincere admiration and respect for Chioma.
He highlighted that Odogwu’s wealth was not a tool for manipulation but a means to support and elevate Chioma’s ambitions.
“This is a guy who most probably is not in the same educational status as this girl, but he had wealth, he had something that could make up for his lack. I feel like that’s what a lot of average Nigerians…
“If you are not up to her standard, then you would look for another way to level up to her, and that’s what I tried to sell,” he explained.
Uzor also provided insight into a subplot where Odogwu purchases the building where Chioma works. He clarified that the acquisition was a business decision, not an attempt to intrude into her personal space.
“There was a back-up story to him buying the building; he bought the building because he was a businessman, not because that was where she worked.
“Then he found out that was where she worked, then he was like, I should make an entrance since this is my building,” Uzor elaborated.
Love in Every Word, released on March 7, 2025, is directed by Stanley Obi and produced by Omoni Oboli and Tomi Adeoya.
The film tells the heartfelt story of Chioma, a strong, independent woman seeking genuine love and Chief Obiora (Odogwu), a wealthy Igbo businessman who admires her independence and supports her ambitions.
The narrative explores themes of love, cultural differences and personal growth.
Since its release, the film has garnered significant attention, amassing over 15 million views on YouTube and sparking viral discussions online.
