Controversial social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reacted to the arrest warrant issued against him over his alleged defamation of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Magistrate Court ordered his arrest on Thursday, March 13, 2025, after he failed to appear in court on March 5 despite being summoned.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, VDM dismissed the arrest warrant as a “power play,” questioning how such an order could be issued when he is currently in China.

He accused Mercy Chinwo of using the case to bring him down and cover up issues in her legal battle with her former manager, Ezekiel Thankgod Onyedikachukwu, aka EeZee Tee.

“The court ordered my arr33t because of Mercy Chinwo. I no send anybody papa. I am coming to Naija soon, still working on deals for the benefit of our youths and empowerment. We don too suffer,” he wrote.

VDM also alleged that Mercy had not been forthcoming with the full details of her case, saying: “@mercychinwo, till today nobody don see the part 2 of your story. You posted part one only. Why? Did I spoil the show too early?”

Despite the court’s order, the social media critic has stated that he has no plans to acknowledge the arrest warrant or appear in court anytime soon.

The controversy started after VDM accused Mercy of withholding information regarding her fallout with EeZee Tee, among other allegations.

In response, the singer issued a pre-legal notice demanding that he apologise and delete all defamatory videos.

Rather than complying, VDM mocked the demand by singing Mercy’s songs and releasing his own tracks addressing the “Body of Christ.”
