Social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has slammed fans of controversial singer Portable for pleading on his behalf after he surrendered to the police following an assault allegation.
Portable turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, before being transferred to Ogun State, where he was handed over to the authorities.
The 30-year-old had reportedly been on the run since Monday but surrendered on Wednesday.
Qed.ng earlier reported that the Ogun State Police Command maintained Portable was still wanted despite his claim of undergoing psychiatric treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
The singer had cited his mental health while appealing to Nigerians and the Ogun State Government after a warrant was issued for his arrest. However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, insisted that Portable must face questioning.
While some of Portable’s fans and colleagues have called for leniency, Verydarkman took a different stance. The social media critic shared videos of the singer’s past violent altercations, including his clashes with DJ Chicken, a pastor outside his bar, and an individual at Fela’s Shrine.
VDM condemned Portable’s actions in an Instagram post, stating that the singer must be held accountable. He also criticized those defending him, accusing them of enabling his violent behavior.
“Portable should actually go down for this, and to all of you begging the govt on his behalf, watch this. If you still feel he should be pardoned, then no problem, KARMA CAME ALREADY,” he wrote.
Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, is accused of assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—during an enforcement exercise in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu, Ota.
Reports indicate that the officials first met Portable’s father at Odogwu Bar, who told them his son was unavailable. However, Portable allegedly arrived later with a firearm and, alongside nine others, attacked the unarmed officials.
The victims sustained injuries but managed to escape and report the incident to the Ota Area Command.
The case was escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department, leading to the arrest of nine of Portable’s alleged accomplices, while the singer initially went into hiding.
