Social media influencer Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has been arrested by the police for alleged defamation, his lawyer said on Sunday.
The controversial personality was apprehended at his Abuja residence.
According to his lawyer Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan was taken in over the allegations made against another social media influencer, Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy.
According to Adeyanju, his client was arrested on the orders of a police commissioner he simply named Igwe for alleged defamation.
The lawyer wrote on X, “Our client, #thatverydarkman has just been arrested by the police on the instruction of CP Igwe for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad.
“Instead of the police to arrest the person alleged to have duped someone, they arrested VDM on allegation of defamation.”
VeryDarkMan recently alleged that Ashmusy received N1 million from a businessman for advertising services but failed to do the job.
According to VeryDarkMan, the trader paid N1 million to Ashmusy in October 2023.
He alleged that eight months later, Ashmusy refused to do the promo on the grounds that Alaba Market where the trader does business, was too far for her to access from Lekki.
VeryDarkMan released an audio file which he claimed was a conversation between Ashmusy and the trader.
In the file, a female which he claimed was Ashmusy asked a male, the trader, for additional N1.5 million to do the job. The female assured the male that the promo would earn him over N100 million in sales.
When asked to refund the money, the female threatened that if the male involves the police she would leave the country.
VeryDarkMan already has a case in court for alleged cyberstalking and cyber-bullying of actress Iyabo Ojo and others.
