Super Eagles midfielder, Victor Moses, made a triumphant return to former club, West Ham, with Chelsea on Monday.
The Nigerian who recently signed a new contract extension with the Blues spent last season on loan at London rivals, West Ham.
His first visit to his ex-teammates ended in a 2-1 victory – thanks to strikes from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa who made sure that Manuel Lanzini late goal counted for nothing.
After dominating the league leaders in the first quarter of the match, West Ham were stung by a blistering counter-attack set up by N’Golo Kante’s intercept.
Chelsea’s Hazard and Pedro then combined to devastating effect.
Belgium midfielder Hazard surged forward and was on the end of a decisive one-two to score the opener in the 25th minute.
As Hazard slid to his knees to celebrate, a West Ham fan rushed onto the pitch toward the playmaker, but stewards managed to intervene in time.
Costa netted the second in the 50th as West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang flicked Cesc Fabregas’ corner straight to the Spain striker who gratefully nudged in from close range.
Moses didn’t score or assist in the game but was a constant menace as Chelsea’s right wing back and combined well with Pedro in front of him.
His best contribution was defensively as he blocked Sofiane Feghouli’s shot in the second half from crossing the line.
Some West Ham fans couldn’t help but applaud the 26-year-old when he was substituted with 14 minutes remaining.
The result lifts Chelsea 10 points clear of second-placed Tottenham, with 11 games left.
Manchester City is third, a point behind Spurs, but with a game in hand.
