Fuji music veteran Adewale Ayuba has blamed the activities of pirates at Alaba International Market, Lagos for the poor fortune of singers of his genre of music.
The 55-year-old spoke on Monday at the Lagos Secretariat, Ikeja after a press briefing for the 2018 One Lagos Fiesta.
Alaba is the largest electronic market in West Africa and is widely regarded as a location of choice for large-scale piracy in Nigeria.
According to Ayuba, the recent shift by young artistes away from traditional music was necessitated by financial considerations.
He noted that these young acts believe Fuji music does not provide benefits to the singers and so they focus on RnB and hip-hop.
The ‘Bonsue’ singer also decried the use of entertainers as propaganda tools by politicians during election season, saying that genuine effort should be made to improve the entertainment industry.
