Comedian, television host and author, Teju Babyface, has said that he would not have celebrated his 40th birthday if he had no child.
The celebrity comedian turned 40 on Sunday.
Teju and his wife, Bolajoko, a former beauty queen, welcomed a set of twins – a boy and a girl – in April 2018, since their marriage in 2012.
Born Olateju Oyelakin, Teju, in an exclusive interview with QedTV on January 15 in Lagos, said instead of calling a party he would have gone on a trip for prayers with his wife if he had remained childless.
“In the place of business, in the place of achievement, in the place of exploits in life, they (childless parents) may not quickly or easily know, but people without children are often held back. They may not know it. It might not be a top-of-mind awareness situation for them but they are often held back,” Teju said.
He added, “I’m going to be 40 now. Would I have invited you to a birthday party if I had been childless? There would be no party. I won’t even have told you people. My wife and I would have gone on a trip somewhere to petition and supplicate God to do it (give us children) this year.
“The five years were tough especially as we had this big wedding and all that.”
He also revealed that the years without a child forced him to withdraw from the crowd and more into his wife, he however said it served him well “because now that the children have come I like the kind of life I’ve been able to build. If I had had children in the first year of marriage perhaps I would have been out on the road hustling for business.”
