UFC champion Israel Adesanya has elicited praise from fans on social media for greeting his parents the Yoruba way after successfully defending his middleweight title on Sunday in Las Vegas, US.
Known for flamboyant entrances, Adesanya carried an urn to the cage as he paid homage to WWE legend The Undertaker.
The champion was barely out of second gear against Jared Cannonier at UFC 276 over the five-round main event as he cruised to a fourth title defence.
The Las Vegas crowd were left less than impressed as they booed the fight throughout before all three judges handed the Nigerian victory by margins of four and five rounds.
At the end of the fight, his parents and another relative came on stage to celebrate with him.
Adesanya greeted them in the traditional Yoruba way of prostrating.
Since winning the title in 2019, Adesanya has successfully defended his title four times. He made his debut in 2018.
The Nigerian’s only loss was during his unsuccessful step up to light heavyweight, losing to then-champion Jan Blachowicz.
