Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State has explained why actress Funke Akindele was chosen as his running mate.
In a statement shared on Twitter on Tuesday, Jandor pointed out that Funke Akindele will add more value to his candidacy in the 2023 general elections.
He said: “I appeal to the entire populace to work with me and my running mate, who will add more value to my candidacy. My choice of running mate is from the clear understanding of the task ahead and the need to work with a co-visionary with shared passion for the emancipation of the good.
“People of Lagos, this journey demands focus, resilience and tenacity. My running mate is someone who is large-hearted with a well-known history of service and advocacy. An Ikorodu-born success story who has, through several of her projects, positively transformed our society.”
On her part, Funke Akindele said she was chosen to help liberate and improve the welfare of the people which cannot be ignored.
She also promised to work tirelessly and compliment Jandor’s burning desire to see Lagos State live up to its full potential.
Part of her statement read: “When the Lagos PDP gubernatorial candidate Dr Abul-Azeez Olajide Adediran Jandor asked me to be his running mate as a deputy governor in the next year’s gubernatorial election, I saw it as an opportunity to help liberate and improve the welfare of our people, particularly the deprived youths, women and the girl child.
“My decision is not only to accept this huge responsibility but also to work tirelessly and compliment Jandor’s burning desire to see our dear state of Lagos live up to its full potential with the people as the immediate and direct beneficiaries.
“Over the years a lot of people have been ignored, victimised for daring to have a dream, I use this opportunity to call out all well-meaning residents of Lagos, especially the youths, It’s indeed time to use our numerical strength to our own advantage. It’s time to take our rightful place in matters that concerns our lives and future.
“It’s time to rally ourselves and support our own. I am not unaware of the cost of this assignment on my vibrant career which is why I must put it on hold. It’s a huge personal sacrifice but my resolve is that the sacrifice isn’t too much for the actualization of the urgent mission to rescue our people and our dear state.”
