Wale Ojo at 60: Life lessons and reflections

Wale Ojo

Award-winning actor Wale Ojo has celebrated his 60th birthday and in an interview with Punch Saturday Beats, he opened up about the invaluable lessons he’s learned over the years.

“The greatest lesson I’ve learned is that love and creativity are the true driving forces of life, and they fuel the passion for what one does,” Ojo shared.

“Whenever I travel, especially in Nigeria and other parts of the world, I wonder how someone can sit idle for hours, maybe as a security guard staring at a wall. I don’t believe in idleness; it would drive me insane. I have to stay active.”

Reflecting on the defining moments of his career, Ojo pointed to his decision to return to Nigeria to pursue acting as a pivotal step.

“The defining moment for me was leaving England to focus on my acting career in Nigeria. That’s when I truly understood the depth of love one can receive from their own people.

“I starred in Meet The Adebanjos, a TV series in London, and never imagined it would resonate so strongly in Nigeria.

“When I arrived, I was overwhelmed by the love—people wanted photos, hugs—it was surreal. I never experienced that in England. That’s when I knew I’d made the right decision.”

At 60, Ojo reflects with a mix of gratitude and renewed energy.

“It feels great, almost like any other day,” he said.

“I’m still doing what I was 30 years ago, maybe even with more energy. But I’ve noticed I’m becoming less patient with people who are slow—I think I’ve just gotten used to moving fast.”

Wale Ojo turned 60 on September 9, with fans and colleagues celebrating his new milestone.
