Outgoing Bayern Munich coach, Pep Guardiola, has revealed that his aim to manage a team in the Premier League is the main reason he has decided against extending his stay at the club.
The Spaniard’s contract with the Bavarians expires at the end of the season and the former Barcelona boss will be replaced by Carlo Ancelotti, as he has decided against signing a new deal.
Guardiola has long been rumoured to be interested in managing in the Premier League, but never confirmed the speculation until Tuesday, when he confessed his love for England.
The Spaniard said in a press conference: “I want to coach in the Premier League.
“That is the only reason I have not extended [my contract].”
A number of Premier League clubs are jostling to sign one of the most prized coaches in world football and there is speculation that Manchester City are currently leading the chasing pack, but Guardiola remained tight lipped.
When asked about his probable destination, the Spaniard said: “If I have a new contract, the club will announce it.
“At this moment I cannot say anything else; I have not made any commitments.”
Guardiola has an illustrious managerial record behind him.
He won three league titles and two Champions League crowns with Barcelona, before arriving at Bayern Munich in 2013, where he has won two Bundesliga titles and is expected to scoop up a third.
