Lawyer Deji Adeyanju has said that musician Speed Darlington has been located after he was declared missing by his fans.
The singer was said to have gone missing weeks after calling out colleague Burna Boy. The controversial personality made a video some time ago asking if Burna Boy deserved his Grammy Award win in 2021 considering his relationship with American music executive Diddy who is facing charges of human trafficking, assault among others. He also asked Burna Boy how much oil Diddy used on him.
Speed Darlington’s statement came after US investigators found tons of baby oil in Diddy’s possession when his residence was searched.
Following concerns about Speed Darlington’s whereabouts on Tuesday, Mr Adeyanju wrote on X that his law firm was involved in the musician’s case. He noted that no one should be arrested by the police for expressing their views.
The lawyer called on the authorities to stop the clampdown on freedom of speech.
“We are now involved in the Speed Darlington matter. We will do everything to get him freed. Nobody should be arrested by the police for expressing their views or opinions. We urge the authorities to stop the clampdown on freedom of speech in Nigeria,” he wrote.
In another post on X, he appeared to confirm Burna Boy was involved in Speed Darlington’s disappearance by commenting on the ‘Monsters You Made’ singer’s penchant for singing against oppressors.
“You can’t be singing against oppressors and still be an oppressor,” he wrote.
Adeyanju later confirmed that his team had located Speed Darlington and would be working on getting him released.
“We have just located Speed Darlington and we are working on getting him freed. The attack on freedom of expression in Nigeria must stop,” he wrote.
