Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) says it has not endorsed former Lagos State governor Bola Tinubu for president contrary to reports.
The former governor and senator is one of the frontrunners for the presidential ticket of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the secretary-general of the association Baba Ngelzarma, some members of the association who endorsed Tinubu did so as individuals.
“We want to make it clear that the association has not endorsed any candidate,” Ngelzarma said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Those who endorsed Tinubu are doing so as individuals, as MACBAN should not in any way be dragged into the politics of endorsement at this stage.”
There have been misconceptions about the group’s position since Saleh Alhassan, who is the spokesman of one of the umbrella bodies of herdsmen in Nigeria, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, told PUNCH on Monday that it will be easy for Tinubu to win the hearts of northerners in the 2023 election because he is well-accepted in the region.
Alhassan had however noted that his organisation would not endorse any presidential aspirant till after party primaries have been conducted and candidates have emerged.
