The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has said it is investigating products brandished by Delta-based preacher Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin because he claimed they were NAFDAC-approved.
NAFDAC said on Sunday that Fufeyin’s claim that his miracle soap and water were approved by the agency was untrue, adding that he was deceiving members of the public.
The agency warned the public not to patronise the cleric.
However, Fufeyin reacted in a statement shared on his Facebook page, saying he was not deceiving the public.
“We also wish to state that Senior Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin of Christ Mercy Land Ministry has never used NAFDAC name as an agency to deceive innocent members of the public, such claims and story being peddled by punch newspaper is purely unfounded in facts and narratives,” part of the statement said.
Fufeyin’s miracle soap, water, perfume among others gained widespread attention after social media influencer Martins Otse aka VeryDarkMan called the cleric out.
Speaking with PUNCH on Monday, NAFDAC’s resident media consultant Sayo Akintola said the agency will investigate products under its regulation regardless of whether they are owned by religious organisations or individuals.
Akintola said, “NAFDAC is not a religious organisation. It was not established to regulate religious products, several other religious organisations are claiming to have spiritual materials, and this has never bothered NAFDAC.
“But the moment you say you have a product that falls under our regulated products, definitely we have to get involved. If you also claim that the products carry the NAFDAC number, we will be involved. We are concerned about the health of the public.”
Akintola said the agency has to ascertain if the products are safe and would not result in cancer for whoever applies it to their body.
