Nigerian men have begun rallying around Ashleigh Plumptre who made her debut for the Super Falcons on Friday at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers against Cote d’Ivoire.
Plumptre put up an impressive performance in defence as the Super Falcons strolled to a 2-0 win over the Lady Elephants in the absence of captain Assist Oshoala.
The British-Nigerian, daughter of a Nigerian dad and a British mom, had represented England at junior level.
Plumptre, who plays for Leicester City in the FA Women’s League, provided the assist for the second goal of fellow debutant Ifeoma Onumonu.
On social media, Nigerian men have begun laying claim to Plumptre as female football fans adore Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.
