Most of the reports quoted an unnamed source as saying the ‘Stay with Me’ singer slumped and died just as he was about to leave his house on a publicity drive across media outlets.
With Twitter as usual acting as the mouthpiece of the gullible, lots of RIP messages flew around from fans and colleagues of the 22-year-old.
Even those who secretly wish he was off the scene also joined the chorus of mourners.
About four hours after the news of the “death” broke various sources came out to say that Skibbi was not dead after all, but responding to treatment after he was rushed to the hospital.
Many have since turned around to knock the ‘Sample’ crooner and his label, Five Star Music, accusing them of starting the story as a publicity stunt to promote his new single.
Five Star’s star act and label owner, Kcee, who was originally quoted as saying he didn’t know what was going on because he was out of the country wrote on Instagram that Skiibii was “responding very well” to treatment.
He promised that an official statement will be released later.
The ‘Limpopo man has been the subject of hate messages since the news of the ‘death’ broke. There was even the outrageous suggestion that he had sacrificed the young man as part of a voodoo ritual.
Born Abbey Elias, Skiibii Mayana was signed onto five star music label in December 2014 and was gifted a Hyundai SUV 2014 to commemorate the occasion. He thereafter released ‘Sample’ and ‘Stay with Me’ featuring Kcee under the label.
The young artiste along with label mate, Harrysong, was on Naija FM promoting his new song on Thursday.
