Governors Rotimi Akeredolu, Kayode Fayemi and Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday visited Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike at his private residence in Port Harcourt.
The governors are all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while Wike is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A video of Wike receiving his colleagues heartily has since gone viral.
In the video, Akeredolu repeatedly calls Wike’s name while Fayemi jokingly asks: “Why did you bring cameras here?”
The governors soon went in for a private conversation.
They were later joined in the meeting by a former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose and Wike’s friend Senator Olaka Nwogu.
Fayose, a member of the PDP, has insisted he is not in support of his party’s decision to give the presidential ticket to a northerner former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Wike, who was the first runner-up at the PDP presidential primary, is reportedly unhappy he was overlooked for the vice-presidential slot ahead of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The governors did not speak with the press after the meeting.
It was however gathered that the APC governors were in Rivers to lobby Wike to support their cause for a southerner to emerge president in 2023.
Bola Tinubu, a southerner, is the APC presidential candidate.
