Actress and filmmaker Uchenna Nnanna has revealed why she decided to produce only Igbo films.
The movie producer disclosed this in a recent interview with QEDNG on the red carpet of Toyin Abraham’s movie premiere.
Uchenna Nnanna said she wanted to tell Igbo stories in the way they should be told. She added that most filmmakers portray the Igbos as poor people hence the need to change the narrative.
She said: “As an actor, sometimes, you mighty see some things that are not really going well like when it comes to why I even went for producing Igbo movies, they don’t give it what I want.
“When you hear Igbo movies they will do doing where people are tying only one wrapper, you see people in thatch houses and I ask them are you saying my Igbo people are not rich?” Won’t dress well? Why are you people doing local movies? Reaosn I ventured into producing Igbo movies. And I am glad because when I picked that script and I finished reading it, I said I want to use this film and put my name on the map of Nollywood and it came through. It was a dream come true that the movie won Best Indigenous Film. To God be the glory.”
