Veteran galala singer, Daddy Showkey, has revealed why he didn’t attend the lying-in-state ceremony held in honour of late reggae legend, Ras Kimono.
The ceremony was held on Thursday morning as musicians, Rastafarians and fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the music icon one more time and pay their last respect before his body sets out for Asaba, Delta State for the activities leading to the burial on Saturday.
Chief among those who absent was Daddy Showkey, who often refers to Ras Kimono as one of the biggest influences on his life.
Speaking exclusively to Qed.ng on telephone Daddy Showkey said he didn’t attend the ceremony because he wouldn’t have been able to handle seeing his mentor lifeless.
“I would not been able to handle it. I would have broken down like a baby. Ras Kimono meant too much to me,” he said.
“That man meant so much to me.”
He, however, revealed that he will leave Lagos on Friday for the burial in Delta State on Saturday.
“I will be going for the burial on Saturday in Asaba. I will leave Lagos tomorrow,” he added.
