Singer, songwriter, and music producer Alex Okoroigwe, popularly known as Alex O, has opened up about his decision to keep details about his family out of the public eye.
In an exclusive interview with QEDNG publisher Olumide Iyanda, Alex O explained that he deliberately avoids discussing his personal relationships, especially in the media.
When asked about his marital status, Alex O confirmed that he had been married but added, “You know how life is—sometimes you go in, sometimes you come out. But I try not to talk about the people I’ve been involved with.”
He emphasised that his decision stems from a desire to protect those involved, particularly his children.
“There are people involved now, and you never know what you might say that someone could take issue with, especially on social media,” he said.
Alex O explained that out of respect for his children, he is cautious about making public comments concerning their mother.
“You never know what the children might not like to hear about their mom. So, I choose to be careful.”
Reflecting on his experiences, Alex O mentioned that relationship dynamics can shift for various reasons, but managing these changes is what truly matters.
“I’m just as normal as everyone else. Relationships can go in different directions, but how you handle them is important.”
The singer revealed that his focus remains on his work, from his music to his upcoming film on Showmax, and other projects he is producing.
“I concentrate more on my career and try to stay away from discussing family, children, or ex-partners. You never know what could be taken the wrong way. It’s my personal approach.”
Alex O gained fame in the 1980s and 1990s before leaving Nigeria to explore opportunities abroad.
Some of his popular hits include ‘Celebrate’, ‘One More Night’, ‘Smile’, ‘Banana’, and ‘One Love’.
