Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, says he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to advance his ambition to seek re-election.
He stated this in a tweet on Friday shortly after a video was shared by the PDP announcing his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I have officially joined the @OfficialPDPNig to advance my ambition to seek re-election as Governor of Edo State,” Mr Obaseki wrote.
“I, as always, remain committed to engendering good governance and sustainable development of our dear state.”
Obaseki had on June 14 met two PDP leaders in the South-South region – Governors Nyesom Wike and Udom Emmanuel of Rivers and Akwa Ibom respectively – to discuss his future.
The governor looks set to become PDP’s governorship candidate ahead of Edo polls in September.
