Afrobeats singer Sulaimon Shekoni, popularly known as Khaid, has opened up about why he was confident he wouldn’t die after being rushed to the hospital for internal bleeding.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the 19-year-old singer reflected on the terrifying moment and what went through his mind during his health scare.

In April 2024, Khaid was caught in a gang-related altercation that left him hospitalised due to internal bleeding.

However, after his recovery, he shared his gratitude for surviving the ordeal, saying, “Thank God for helping me overcome what many would face and die.”

When asked if he thought he was going to die, Khaid admitted, “To an extent I thought I was gonna die, but to an extent I knew I wasn’t gonna die. There’s a feeling in you when there’s an incident.”

He continued, “For some reasons, you know, with the way I serve God right now in my life, for some reason, I feel like when I see a doctor, I feel like this person is here to install fear in me, he is here to break my faith. The doctors are gonna come and say a whole lot of things.”

Khaid attributed his strength to his faith, explaining, “I just had faith, I cannot be serving the God that gives lives and I die like a fowl or chicken. I have to die great, I have to die smart at least. I have to die great, my name is David. David in the Bible died a good age, a wealthy and a complete man. So I can’t just die anyhow.”

Khaid, signed to Neville Records—owned by skit-maker Sydney Talker—rose to prominence with his 2022 hit single ‘With You.’

He was also nominated for the ‘Rookie of The Year’ award at the 2023 Headies.
