The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has explained his decision to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC), his original political party.
Speaking on Monday in Lagos while announcing his return, Jandor described the APC as a better platform compared to the PDP, citing his experiences in both parties as the basis for his decision.
Adediran, who led the Lagos4Lagos movement to the PDP during the 2023 electioneering process, reflected on his political journey and concluded that returning to the APC aligns better with his commitment to the progress of Lagos State.
“Before you are quick to remind me of the reasons upon which we left APC in the first place, let me respond with a popular Yoruba adage that says if a woman has not tried two husbands, she probably would not know which is better,” Adediran said.
He commended the leadership style of the APC, noting that while its decisions may sometimes be controversial, the party remains united and focused on winning elections for the collective benefit of its members and the state. In contrast, he criticised Lagos PDP leadership for allegedly undermining the party’s prospects during elections.
“In APC, we have a leader, even if you fault his selection choices, you can’t fault his desire to always win for his party to the benefit of all members, followers, and the state,” he said. “While in Lagos PDP, you have a leader that will, at every election cycle, work against his own party and willfully dash the hopes of many party members and followers. We have chosen the better alternative.”
Jandor emphasised that his return to the APC reflects his dedication to uniting progressives in Lagos to achieve the collective aspirations of the people.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his contributions to democracy and nation-building, as well as to Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and Seyi Tinubu for facilitating his smooth return to the APC.
Adediran also urged his supporters across the state to join him in embracing the new chapter, saying, “We remain committed to the values of service, integrity, and progress. Together, we will continue to champion the cause of a better Lagos for present and future generations.”
