Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, said on Monday that the deposed emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, lost his throne because he refused to be a part of the reforms of the state’s emirate system.
Sanusi was removed from his position in March after months of frosty relationship with Ganduje who created four new emirates in a move believed to be aimed at reducing Sanusi’s influence in the ancient city.
Speaking at a media parley on Monday to mark Democracy Day, Ganduje said: “The former emir of Kano, who refused to be part of the reforms, has to bow out so that the reforms can be completed and the new emirates have come to stay.
“Today, there are no legal issues before the court as regards the reforms of the traditional system.”
Ganduje said the state would go ahead to probe Sanusi who ascended the throne on June 8, 2014, following the death of Ado Bayero in 2014.
