Ex-Super Eagles skipper, Sunday Oliseh, has revealed why he thinks the current crop is the best in a long while.
Oliseh, 43, was part of Nigeria’s golden era which won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and Olympic Gold medal two years later.
The ex-Ajax midfielder amassed over 50 appearances for his country, scoring twice including a screamer at France 1998 against Spain.
With such rich resume, he believes none but Gernot Rohr’s side has come close his generation owing to their youthfulness, pace and technique.
“This is one of the best teams we’ve assembled in years. They are fast, young, they’re enterprising and fresh,” the ex-Fortuna Sittard boss told Brila FM on Wednesday.
“It might be a disadvantage because it could mean they’ll struggle for cohesion but they’ve not been overworked.
“This team is similar to what we had in Atlanta.”
Oliseh and other Nigerians will be hoping the current crop exceeds the second round benchmark set by the 1994 team.
They will have to contend with Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in Group D to stand a chance.
