Rivers State Governor and presidential aspirant Nyesom Wike has dissolved the state executive council with immediate effect.
His special assistant on media Kelvin Ebiri said in a statement on Tuesday that the chief of staff to the governor Emeka Woke and the governor’s senior special assistant on protocol Harold Koko have also been relieved of their office.
“Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has dissolved the State Executive Council with effect from Tuesday, May 24, 2022,” the statement said.
“The Chief of Staff to the governor and Senior Special Assistant (Protocol), have also been relieved of their office.”
Mr Ebiri said Wike commended the members of the council for their service and contribution to the development of the state and wished them the best in all their future endeavours.
He instructed all the former members of his cabinet to hand over to the most senior officers in their respective ministries.
The statement did not explain why the governor made such a move. However, there are rumour it is connected to the 2023 elections.
