Wizkid wins 4th consecutive NAACP Image Award

Grammy Award winner Wizkid has won his 4th consecutive NAACP Image Award.

The music star won the Outstanding International Song category, organised by the National Association for Advancement of Coloured People.

The winners were announced during the two-hour live television special, hosted by seven-time NAACP Image Awards winner, Anthony Anderson, aired on Saturday.

Wizkid won with his hit song ‘Essence’, featuring Tems and Justin Bieber. ‘Essence’ also won best music video.

Tiwa Savage’s ‘Somebody’s Son,, featuring Brandy, gained her nomination, while Kidi and Omah Lay received nominations for their song, “Touch it”, and “Understand” respectively. Fireboy also got nominated for his hit song ‘Peru’.

Tiwa and Fireboy lost to Wizkid.

In 2021, Wizkid bagged the award for ‘Outstanding Music Video/Visual Album’ for his collaboration with American singer Beyonce on the song ‘Brown Skin Girl’ off her Lion King: The Gift album.

He also won the ‘Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration’ category for the same song in 2020, becoming the first Nigerian artiste to win the award.

The 53rd NAACP Image Awards celebrate outstanding achievements and performances of people of colour across more than 80 competitive categories from film, television; plus streaming, music, literature, and podcasts.
