Wizkid’s family holds candlelight service for mum

The family of Afrobeat singer Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, on Wednesday night, held a candlelight service for their mother.

Juliana Balogun nee Oshineye Dawodu Olowosago died on August 18.

Videos of a saddened Wizkid alongside other members of his family holding candles in honour of the deceased at the candlelight procession were shared on Instagram.

In another video, friends and supporters could be seen consoling the music artiste. Fans of the singer also gathered in large numbers the show support over the demise of his mother.

The wake and tributes for Mrs Balogun will hold on Thursday, October 12 at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, and Casino, 6-8 Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos between 5-7pm.

Wizkid’s family announces funeral plans for mum

The funeral service takes place on Friday, October 13 at RCCG City of David COD Church Road, Dideolu Estate, off, Ligali Ayorinde St, Victoria Island, Lagos. at 10 a.m.

Born on July 26, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Wizkid grew up in a polygamous home with a Muslim father and a Christian mother. His father married three wives.

Wizkid’s mother was a familiar sight at most of his concerts and events.

She was born on July 14, 1957 and is survived by her husband, M.O Balogun, and four children, namely Yetunde Balogun, Omolara Osunkoya, Olubusayo Balogun, Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid) and many grandchildren.

Amongst those who sent condolence messages to Wizkid were his colleague Davido, movie stars like Junior Pope, Kemi Korode, Bisola Bayo, Seun Jimoh and Labour Party presidential candidate of 2023 Peter Obi.

Davido posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) in August, putting Wizkid in his prayers and sharing words of comfort.

“Praying for you my brother @wizkidayo. Sadness flies away on the wings of time,” he wrote.

Mr Obi, whose supporters are mostly young people, said in a message via X that the loss of a loved one, especially a mother, is painful. He prayed for strength for Wizkid and his family to bear the loss.

“On behalf of the OBIdient family, I sincerely commiserate with Mr Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, (Wizkid), who reportedly lost his beloved mother. The death of a loved one is a very painful experience, more so for a beloved mother.

“Dear Wizkid, may God Almighty who called her home grant her eternal rest in His kingdom and grant you and your family the fortitude to bear her irreplaceable loss. God bless you always,” Obi wrote.
