German Bundesliga side, Vfl Wolfsburg, have finalised a deal to sign Nigerian youngster, Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen notched 10 goals at the FIFA U-17 World Cup last year in Chile to eclipse the record goals scored in a single tournament.
His exploits attracted interests from top European sides but the player opted to join Die Wolfe.
According to the club’s director of sport, Klaus Allofs, an agreement has been struck between the Bundesliga side and Ultimate Strikers Academy, which owns the rights to the Nigerian forward.
Wolfsburg’s official website stated that “the transfer of Victor Osimhen to VFL had been agreed upon as from January 1st, 2017.”
Osimhen, who travelled out of Nigeria to Germany in the company of his father on Thursday, will turn 18 in December before signing a professional contract in January 2017.
The striker is expected to “spend several days as a guest, training with the professional Bundesliga team.”
The German club also entered into cooperation with the academy which owns the rights of Osimhen.
“We are delighted to welcome our first international cooperation partner, in the Ultimate Strikers Academy, here as VfL Wolfsburg. For talented youngsters such as Victor Osimhen, it is a major advantage to combine the games at home with the academy team, with knowledge of youth training and operational processes in European professional football,” said Allofs.
Ultimate Strikers Academy boss, Chinedu Moses Ogbenna, expressed happiness with the partnership entered into with the Bundesliga club.
“This cooperation is a massive step for our academy. The training and working conditions at VfL Wolfsburg are very impressive. We are very happy to be in a position to benefit from the know-how at VfL in terms of talent development. This exchange is a real milestone for us,” said Ogbenna.
