A 53-year-old woman has been killed in Germany while attempting to save her dog which wandered onto rail tracks, police said on Thursday.
The dog also died after it was struck by the oncoming train in the Bavarian town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Wednesday.
The woman had hurried to rescue her pet but was unable to retreat before she was hit.
The accident halted railway traffic for over three hours.
