Media personality Toke Makinwa has paid tribute to women, particularly women of colour, in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the 40-year-old shared a video of herself speaking delivering an empowering message to women.
“Happy International Women’s Day to every woman out there, most especially every woman of color,” she said, emphasising the need to recognise and uplift Black and Brown women worldwide.
She also described womanhood as a “superhero trait” and expressed admiration for the strength and grace women exhibit daily.
“I think that there is nothing in this world like being a woman and the essence of being feminine. We’re so gracious, we carry on so much, we lead as we nurture,” she added.
The media personality acknowledged the struggles women endure, noting that they constantly give from a well that never runs dry.
“Even when it feels like it’s running dry, we find a way to equip ourselves and just refill ourselves for the journey ahead,” she added.
Encouraging women to recognize their contributions—no matter how small—Toke emphasised that every effort plays a role in something greater.
As she concluded, she urged women to continue embracing their femininity, maintaining their softness and achieving their dreams.
Toke captioned the post, “Here’s to us basking in our feminine auras, may our softness never get hard, and may all our heart desires become reality. Keep thriving, Queens. Let’s amplify our voice for more rights, more equality, and more empowerment for women.”
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of women’s achievements and a call to action for gender equality.
The first official celebration was in 1911, stemming from early 20th-century labour movements in North America and Europe.
