Three Leicester City first-team players have self-isolated after showing symptoms of coronavirus (Covid-19).
Though the identity of players in self-isolation is not known, they “have been kept away from the rest of the squad,” manager Brendan Rodgers said on Thursday.
The reports have caused anxiety among Nigerians who have compatriots Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho in the team.
The Foxes play Watford at Vicarage Road in the Premier League on Saturday.
“We had a few players that have shown symptoms and signs,” Rodgers said.
“It would be a shame (if the Watford game were postponed), but the public’s health is the most important in all of this.”
It is learnt that the club is monitoring the players on self-isolation although their symptoms have not reached the threshold for coronavirus testing.
Asked if the game against Watford could be played behind closed doors, Rodgers said: “The game is all about the players and the fans and if you have one of those not there, it’s obviously not the same.”
The game between Manchester City and Arsenal on Wednesday was postponed as a precaution.
The UK government is stepping up its response to the pandemic.
