Freestyle wrestler Odunayo Adekuoroye has announced the death of her mother.
The 29-year-old wept in a video she shared on Instagram on Sunday. She said her mother died three weeks ago but she could not come to terms with the incident.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my beloved mother,” the athlete wrote.
“It has been 3 weeks since She passed on to glory but I have not been able to come to terms with the fact that she is gone forever.
“Her love, guidance, endless prayers and the sacrifices she made have been pivotal in shaping me into the person and athlete I am today.

“My beautiful Mom was my gist partner, my prayer warrior and best friend. I miss you so so much and I just wish you would stay much longer on this side.
“My dear mother, I miss you so much, you death brings tears to my eyes every single day. I wish for a second chance. please if you are giving another chance to come back to this world let me have you as my baby, I promise to take good care of you.”
Adekuoroye asked members of the public for understanding, prayers and privacy.
The wrestler got married in September 2022 one month after she won a gold medal in women’s 57kg freestyle wrestling at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
