Actress Scarlet Gomez has opened up about the challenges and sacrifices she faced while working on the award-winning show Wura, including a prolonged separation from her husband due to the demanding shooting schedule.
In an interview with Rotimi Ige, Scarlet revealed that she had to be apart from her husband for nearly a year while filming the new season which is now approaching its finale on the streaming platform.
“I had to stay away from my husband for eleven months. That was a lot, but my husband found a way to visit me. During that time, I think I stepped out of the compound maybe twice,” she shared.
“I was confined to the set for almost the entire duration.”
The actress spoke about the mental and physical toll the role took on her, necessitating therapy to cope.
“It was incredibly hard to come out of it. I remember going on set and being typecast, as is common in Nigeria.
“Once you play a certain role, that’s all you get offered. I decided not to take on any more ‘wicked’ roles and chose to portray the victim instead. It was challenging to break free from that image.”
Despite the hardships, she remains committed to her craft and is ready to take on another demanding role.
“I’m going to do my job regardless. The more challenging the role, the bigger the kick I get from it. It’s gruesome, tasking, it’s blood, sweat, and tears, but I’d definitely do it again.”
Referring to Showmax as her professional home, the actress admitted that her portrayal of Wura has had mixed consequences in her personal life.
“I’m not going to lie, it feels amazing. This is the biggest project I’ve ever done, and it’s rewarding to see people appreciate me for it.
“In Nigeria, you know you’ve made an impact when people start calling you by your character’s name, like ‘Sikiratu Sindodo.’ I’ve accepted it, but it bothers me that some people think I’m like that in real life. I see people crossing the street when they see me, and I’m like, ‘I’m not wicked, o!’”
