Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has denied reports that he bought the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination form for the 2019 elections for President Muhammadu Buhari.
The denial was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Petra Onyegbule.
A group known as the National Coordinator of Nigeria Consolidation Ambassador Network (NCAN) on Wednesday presented a cheque of N45 million to APC Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, for the purchase of the form for President Buhari.
Some opposition groups and individual, however, claim that the group was acting as a front for Bello whose government is heavily weighed down by unpaid salaries and other debts.
Dismissing the claim, Onyegbule wrote, “The general public is hereby urged to disregard the story making the rounds that His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello purchased nomination and expression of interest forms for President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The story is false and being peddled only to serve a mischievous purpose. Do not join in spreading it.”
